Vermont (1) // Happy fall y’all! For me, Vermont is synonymous with the season of autumn (well, and maple syrup!). Killington was home base for a week of leaf peeping and image making in 2017 with the esteemed landscape photographer @moosepeterson. Moose knew the best locales to get the best images, and offered some transformative instruction on shooting techniques and finishing an image—tools I carry with me to this day. So as we enter this new season, grab some hot cider and enjoy a few days of fall images beginning with this one from Kent Pond.

Not-In-The-Wild Wildlife (8) // We’re returning to the wonderful Georgia Aquarium for this last image in the series. I’m always fascinated by the “jellies” and their graceful, otherworldly, movement in the black inky depths. And those colors!!! These “spotted” (or “lagoon”) jellies are found in the waters between Japan and Australia. As singer Jack Johnson writes, “When you move like a jellyfish, rhythm is nothing. You go with the flow. You don't stop.”

Sadly not all zoos are like those in Atlanta, Central Park, or so many other quality attractions around the world that take the care of their animals seriously. I found this sad lion on display behind bars at a so-called “roadside zoo” near where we live. @PETA is actively trying to shut this attraction down, but it still receives way too much tourist traffic. It has even been cited by the #USDA for rusty enclosures and sick animals. Advice on what you can do from the PETA website: “Don’t pass a few hours at a place where animals will languish in misery long after you’ve gone home. Please don’t buy a ticket. Instead, explain to your children why your family does not support cruelty to animals.”

Did you know Lions sleep upwards of 20 hours a day in order to help them preserve energy for when they really need it!
