“Presbyterian Pecans” // Closing out the year with a few random images that have not been posted.

“I’ve got pecans for anyone who wants them,” exclaimed our General Presbyter and Stated Clerk Rev. Jerrod Lowry, carrying a plastic bag brimming with nuts into our meeting. But as he further explained, these were “Presbyterian Pecans” to be precise. They had come from trees on the grounds of the Acme Presbyterian Church in Riegelwood, NC. While others may have been thinking “pie,” my thoughts went immediately to “how can I photograph these?”

Classic Cars // Closing out the year with a few random images that have not been posted.

First up, a local car show in September that my father-in-law and I enjoyed strolling through. There were muscle cars, classics, and a few modern variants thrown into the mix. My father-in-law’s encyclopedic knowledge, memory, and stories of different makes and models is absolutely amazing. I just like certain cars because they look cool!

The Fourth Sunday of Advent - Love

“Isaiah ‘twas foretold it,
The Rose I have in mind,
With Mary we behold it,
The virgin mother kind;
To show God’s love aright,
She bore to (all) a Savior,
When half spent was the night.”

(“Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming, vs. 2)

The Third Sunday of Advent - Joy
Gaudete (“rejoice”) Sunday

“May those who sow in tears reap with shouts of joy.” (Psalm 126.5)

Just as Joy was born to an unassuming couple, in an ordinary stable, in a backwater town, Joy is still being found in the most unexpected places—even in a markdown bin at the grocery store.

The Second Sunday of Advent - Peace

“Comfort, O Comfort my people!” (Isaiah 40.1)

“Prince of Peace, the wars and rumors of wars betray our addiction
to violence, our destructive and dehumanizing ways. We deserve
your judgement and condemnation. Yet, you remain faithful, a stead-
fast source of peace during our warring madness. Holy God, turn us
from evil. Return us to Christ and his path of peace. Forgive us our
sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Amen.”
